Five terraced houses built on the century old stone foundations of a former barn, on the Gulf of Finland.
A group of five houses totalling approximately 1,000 sqm, set at the end of the street, which gives residents quiet and privacy. The apartments look out over the golf courses towards the sea and the outlines of Espoonlahti and Kivenlahti across the bay.
The houses were built on the stone foundations of a former barn, over a hundred years old. The structure combines timber, stone and steel. Thick stone walls on the ground floor preserve the historic character, the upper floor offers generous rooms with views, and the loft is lit by roof windows. Kivenlahti metro station is about 2.7 kilometres away.
Our scope covered the preparatory works and bringing the buildings to weathertight shell stage. Founding a new structure on century old stone footings required an assessment of the existing fabric and bespoke solutions where the old wall meets the new structure.
